When your float plane first lands in Pelican, AK, a Pelican Inn Charter's representative will be waiting for you. Then we will take you to our lodge just down the boardwalk. After getting settled into your rooms and picking out your rain gear and boots from our large selection, you'll have some time to see town, relax or simply talk to other clients as they come in from their day of fishing. At 6:30pm a large home cooked dinner will be brought out for everyone to enjoy buffet style. First thing the next morning coffee will be hot and ready at 5:30am, with breakfast shortly after. Plan on leaving the dock around 6:00am. This allows us to get out and on the water ahead of the other fishermen. Water, pop and hot coffee are provided along with sandwiches, chips and other snacks to ensure you never go hungry!
Generally we start the day out salmon fishing for those Alaskan Kings and Coho until your captain decides it is time to go after halibut. Due to some of the restrictions all charters have to follow, we have acquired special permits that allow charter clients to "purchase" a halibut they catch of any size that does not count against your daily limit. These permits are completely optional and can be decided at the time the fish is caught, but they have to be purchased. If you do the math they are still much cheaper then buying halibut from any store. It simply provides the fisherman who want to take home "the monster" the option to do just that! Salmon and halibut are generally our first focus but that doesn't mean we head in when everyone has caught their limit. There are always other species to go after. Like most charters we can take up to 6 customers per boat, but we only put 4 to a boat unless you have a group of 5 or 6 that wants to fish together. Unlike alot of charters in the area, we run 4 salmon rods at a time so everyone gets their own and we can get those limits faster and get into some halibut!
Our fishing day ends with us returning to the lodge around 5:30pm, this gives some time for everyone to get cleaned up and guides to get started filleting and packaging your catch before dinner. Whether this is a once in a lifetime trip or a yearly vacation at Pelican Inn Charters our goal is to make sure your Alaska fishing adventure is everything you were hoping for! Being a family-owned and operated lodge means we work harder and longer to succeed because at the end of the day it us our name and reputation that is on the line(pun intended)!
